Mother Teresa Award is one of the highest awards Mother Teresa charitable Trust confers on persons without distinction of race, occupation, position, gender or religion. It is awarded in recognition of exceptional services, performance of the highest order in the unity and integrity, service to humanity and philanthropy. It is an affirmation and encouragement to do more, dedicate themselves to render the work more and enroll their body, soul and spirit and engage their time to do what Athey know best.

MITHRA, a Rehabilitation Centre was started in 1977 by Sr. Mary Theodore OAM an Australian nun. She came to India in 1951. During her service in various institutions of her congregation she was driven by divine inspiration to do something worthwhile for the most neglected section of the society -Physically and mentally challenged poor children. She decided to respond to the call and founded Mithra. She built up the institution braving heavy odds and reached out to all the less privileged in the society without any distinction of caste, creed, religion, gender or economic status. She was one among the pioneers in Chennai to give a multi disciplinary care and rehabilitation to children with different kinds of disabilities. She was the first area director for Special Olympics in India. She was also the first President of the State Level Federation of Organisations for persons with disabilities. She was conferred with many awards for her exemplary services and Mother Teresa Charitable Trust was highly privileged to honor her with “Mother Teresa Award 2007”.

Mr. Raghava Lawrence, well known director, actor, choreographer of the south film industry. He is a renowned person who has committed himself towards social welfare activities for the upliftment of socially, economically and physically challenged persons below poverty line. He has been relentlessly working by way of providing various support for the downtrodden. In appreciation of his tireless service to the society, he has been conferred with the “Mother Teresa Award” for the year 2018.
